CULTURAL WEEK

YES!!! We are having some cultural days at the EOI Arucas and you are all invited to come. Activities will be on Tuesday and Wednesday evening and Thursday morning (17th-19th November). Of course you are expected to come in your lesson time but you are free to come to any of the other activities.
Meanwhile, you can start getting ready by preparing a cake recipe for the cake competition. Send it to arucaseoi@gmail.com and bring your cake on Wednesday evening (around 5.30) or Thursday morning (around 11am). Yummy! If cooking isn't your thing, then why not prepare a bookmarker (for ideas go here, here, here) or take part in the mini saga competition? Write a story of no more than 50 words and hand it in to your teacher in order to compete. To see some examples, visit the intermediate blog here.

London Calling!

The BBC was the first radio and television company in Great Britain. It is very prestigious and people listen to and watch its programmes in many, many countries of the world. It also helps people learn English. This is the link to an activity on its webpage about languages.

That's not cricket!

"That's not cricket" is an old-fashioned phrase that some English people use when they think that something is unjust. But what do you know about the actual game of cricket? Click here to learn about where and how people play this game.

Beryl Cook

Do you like fat ladies? If so, you'll like the work by the English artist, Beryl Cook. Her paintings are very, very funny and usually show people having a good time. If you'd like to see more of her art, click here. Do you think her style is similar to that of the Colombian painter, Botero? Compare by clicking here. (By the way, -a propósito- do you think that's El Teide in the background?)

Colours

What's your favourite colour? Is it blue or green? Pink or white? Perhaps you like black or red? Maybe it's purple or lemon? Listen to the Yellow Lemon Tree song by clicking here. (Thanks to Pino at EOI Las Palmas I for sharing the link.)

For example, this is the explanation for the verb "to be" and this one for the "present simple".

ENGLISH DICTIONARY

Do you want a free online dictionary for your computer? This is a toolbar gadget from Macmillan Dictionary for Explorer or Mozilla, you choose. It's monolingual, but you can hear the pronunciation of words too. Useful, isn't it?
Just type your word and you'll get the definition in English.
